Go ahead…blame it on karma!

Go ahead…blame it on karma!

Recently I was watching an entertainment news program in which they were talking about Teddi Mellencamp’s cancer diagnosis. In an interview, she stated that she felt her health issues had to do with karma–something she did that brought this on. As you can imagine, the mainstream news reporters had a field day with this. They debunked her comment, blaming it all on fear brought about by religion. They said it was a shame she believed this, as it couldn’t possibly be true. According to them, there is no such thing as payback.

But isn’t there? While I understand the majority of folks in the west don’t believe in reincarnation, the fact is the majority of those in the east do and karma is the foundation upon which the belief in reincarnation exists. Karma is cause and effect. What you reap, you sow. There is no getting around it. Sooner or later, life’s slate must be balanced. For those like Teddi, who can instantly recognize a karmic reaction to something they have done in this life, or in a past life, they have the upper hand in transcending that karma through the Law of Grace. She can still take steps in this life to address what she perceives as her karmic debt before she leaves this plane of existence. In doing so, she won’t bring it with her in subsequent lives.

So why is karma such a difficult concept for people to embrace? It makes a lot more sense than sin, and yet millions of people believe in the concept of sin. The Universe is a place of justice and balance and harmony and it is up to us to stay within the parameters of the laws of the cosmos. If we swing too far to the right or left, the universe will bring us back to center through karmic actions. It is not always an exact method of retribution. In other words, your karma may not reflect your action, although in most cases it does. What you do to one person may manifest in them doing the exact same thing to you. But there may be other, more subtle karmic payment plans at work in any given lifetime. That is why past-life regression is such a valuable tool in that it identifies the root cause of one’s present karma, showing repeating patterns and offering suggestions on how to overcome whatever is impacting your life.

I was tempted to contact the program I was watching and challenge their narrow-minded thinking, but I realized I, alone, could not budge them from their judgmental position. It’s so much easier to dismiss someone’s beliefs rather than to openly discuss why so many are adamantly opposed to such a belief. All I can do is to continue to flag such commentaries and write my books. Meanwhile, I send healing wishes to Teddi. Knowing the source of her affliction will go a long way in her healing journey.
