Curse or Karma?

Curse or Karma?

I’ve always been fascinated by looking at patterns from one life to the next. This often explains the “why” of our every day living. Some clients believe their continued misfortune has to do with being cursed in a former life. They have either been told they’ve been cursed by a well-meaning psychic or reader in this life, or they may recall someone in a prior life actually uttering the word “curse” after some unimaginable interaction between them.

While someone may very well have leveled a curse upon your house and your descendants for all time, it does not mean that it has any real power over you. If you’ve done something unspeakable in a prior life that results in your victim cursing you, any subsequent bad luck is not the result of their vengeance, but instead has everything to do with karma—the law of cause and effect.

The Universe operates from a harmonious place where sooner or later, every soul accounts for their actions. But they do so on their own. It is not because of anything anyone has said to them, but instead what it was they did to initiate such an angry response. More so, what is looked at more closely in what woe comes to any given life, is how we react to it. This is where free will comes into play. We always have a choice. We can give in to our fear and irrational thinking that a witch has cursed us and that’s why we’ve had such a run of bad luck. Or we can step back, see what role we played in whatever transpired between us, and see our own actions created the ill will.

All of us have done something in our past that we’re ashamed of. It’s all part of the human experience. If those actions come to haunt us in a subsequent life, we can sit back and wallow in our self-pity while we mutter, “Oh, woe is me!” Or we can look at our actions right in the eye, accept that we are responsible for our own choices, and then figure out how to make amends. Forgive others, but most of all, forgive yourself. It was, after all, a lesson that was not well learned. Take the class over again and get it right the next time!

And just remember, a curse has no power over a soul who is honest and lives in the light of unconditional love and forgiveness. Neither does karma!
