What’s Love Got To Do With It?
What’s Love Got To Do With It?
Everything, actually!
How often have we heard that love is the most powerful emotion in the universe? That love conquers all. That love IS the answer. As the Beatles so famously sang, “All You Need is Love.” But is that true in the case of our past-life journey? Or are factors at play that even the deepest love cannot resolve?
When working with the volunteers in my Soul Mates versus Cell Mates research project, I am struck by the similarities between their stories and my own, especially when love is the driving factor in bringing two souls together again. When I study past-lives, I look specifically at patterns to see what behaviors from a prior life are repeating themselves in this life. Time and time again, I see how love between two souls becomes rekindled in this life and serves as a conduit for two souls to come together again. Depending on how strong and deep that love was in a prior life, it can reassert itself in this life, almost like an aphrodisiac that becomes an insatiable desire. It brings two souls together like a giant magnet, often without warning or logical explanation. When you remember what it feels like to be so totally joined and in a blissful relationship in the past, you naturally yearn to replicate it in the present moment.
What you often fail to see is that this great love may have brought you together for a totally different reason than to sail off into a harmonious sunset. You may have some serious karmic issues to work out with each other, so while that initial remembrance of love lures you back together, it’s important that you keep your eyes wide open and not allow it to blind you to the subliminal repercussions of your reunion. So many individuals who share that they once had a great love for the soul they are with today, also share how much pain they are in as a result of that relationship. It is definitely not always wine and roses. Remember, in your pre-life planning session, you discussed what karmic issues you wanted to work on in the next life and the soul coming in with you agreed to help you. That may mean coming in and doing things that are anything but loving. But it is because of their love for you that they agree to do so–wanting you to conquer whatever karmic issue you decided to work on in this life.
I came into this life to claim my freedom and to reach my potential through my work. The soul I loved deeply in my prior life came in and did everything possible to make sure that did not happen. She kept her thumb planted firmly on me, not giving me much wiggle room to break the chains that were binding me. It was only when I got the courage to end the relationship that my soul truly began to soar. It was difficult to go on without her in this life because when we were together and we were “on” as I liked to say, there was joy, comfort and a feeling of safety. Those rare moments, when we were able to tap into the great love we had for each other, were few and far between but they were so powerful that it blinded me to her true agenda in this life. It took me years to see that and to break free, and while there are times I still long to feel that love again, I know I would not have achieved anything in this life had we maintained our friendship.
Love has its place in the continuum of our lives, but it is not always what it seems. You can love someone deeply, but that does not mean you are better off to remain with them if in doing so you are kept from fulfilling your own karmic destiny. Each soul comes into existence with its own agenda, its own list of karmic issues to resolve. Sometimes we can achieve that together. Sometimes not. Whether the person you loved in the past is your current soul mate or your current cell mate is for you to determine. Past-life regression can help you see that relationship clearly.
